Meet your true love, join hands in marriage. But marriage is not only on the moral and emotional level, but also should carry with legal meaning.
As laws differ in countries, the requirements for marriage registration are also different. So in China, Can a foreigner get married with a Chinese in China?
The answer is YES.
According to Chinese law, if a Chinese citizen and a foreigner (including foreigners resident in China permanently or temporarily, Chinese foreigners, and foreign nationals residing in China) voluntarily marry or remarry, both the male and the female, together, shall apply for marriage registration at the marriage registration office in the place where the Chinese citizen have his/her permanent residence. Marriage relationship is bonded when marriage registration is completed and marriage certificate is issued.
According to China law, the age of Chinese citizens and foreigners, compatriots from Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, overseas Chinese and expatriates applying for marriage must not be earlier than 22 years old for male and 20 years old for female.
An Eligible foreigner can register their marriage with a Chinese citizen in China, but there are much more documents to be prepared.
Chinese citizen
1、Residence certificate (household register, ID card).
2、The marriage status certificate issued by his/her work unit or urban sub district office and the people's government of rural township (town).
Foreigner
1、A valid passport or other valid international travel documents.
2、A Residence Permit for Foreigners issued by China public security authorities or an identity document issued by the foreign affairs department, or an entry or residence permit for temporary entry into China.
3、A certificate issued by a notary public or a competent authority of the host country, certified by the embassy (or consulate) of the People's Republic of China in that country or certified by the embassy (or consulate) of that country in China that he or she has no spouse, or a certificate issued by the embassy (or consulate) of the host country in China that he or she has no spouse.
4、A certificate of marital status issued by a notary public in the country of origin, certified by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (or an authorized authority of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs) and the embassy or consulate of the country of origin; or a certificate of marital status issued by the embassy or consulate of the country of origin.
5、A divorce document or a certificate of death of the spouse of a person who has remarried (the divorce document must be certified by the embassy (consulate) of China in the country or directly by the embassy or consulate of the country).
*Both parties applying for marriage registration shall submit the premarital health examination certificate issued by the hospital designated by the marriage registration authority and three half-length bareheaded group photos (2 inches) of both parties.
Foreigners who are employed in China after marriage can directly apply for a work visa; If not, he/she should apply for a family visit visa. Otherwise, it will be deemed as illegal residence, and the foreigner will not only be fined but also deported.
